Story Turiqul
My son Turiqul came to the center in Falsathia 30 years ago as a little boy. He couldn’t walk, couldn’t talk and showed no interest in other children.
At the center I was told that my son had Down syndrome. I regularly took him to the center and he learned to walk and communicate. He used a few words and learned to use his body and sign language. Years later when he was 30 years old, he started working in the carpenter unit. He has to walk 30-45 minutes to get there. Even though he always has a great time there, he rarely goes anymore. My son is quite lazy.
What we are most proud of is that he has participated in several cultural events at the local level as a dancer. He has always loved drama and has learned to dance really fantastically well. What we are also proud of is that he is very strong and helps both his family and his neighbors. He cuts the grass for the cows, cleans the stables and feeds the cows. He doesn’t let people walk all over him and speaks his mind when necessary.
Turiqul himself sits with us with a satisfied look on his face and smiling. He looks at his Khalamma and says: ‘I’m going to practice dancing even more and if I’m very good, I will fly to the Netherlands’.
