Story Shihab
It seemed like my life was nothing but disappointments and setbacks. My father died when I was a child, my mother left me and my equally mentally disabled brother with Grandma.
Grandma tried to get me into the elementary school, but that was aiming too high and I couldn’t connect with my classmates. I preferred to hide safely away in our small corrugated house playing with pieces of cardboard. My grandmother sent me to a local tea stall for work, but I couldn’t handle it. By now, my self-esteem had dropped to zero.
My brother Somej worked and lived in ‘Afroza’s place’ since a number of years and he was really happy there. Maybe I could go there, too. My grandmother thought it was a great idea and sent me to the center. After all the previous disappointments I now had more luck. I started the training for assistant carpenter and slowly my confidence increased again. I feel safe and appreciated now. Carpentry suits me very well and I am eager to learn and I like to work hard.
