Story Nodi
Cheerful children’s voices approach us through the windows of a BRAC school. After heavy rainfall, the school is finally open again and the children enjoy their class. One of the students is Nodi, she is 8 years old and has a developmental delay.
Nodi lost her twin brother at birth and she had a difficult start. Due to prolonged oxygen deprivation she suffered brain damage. Her parents took her to the early intervention program in Ghior and she slowly began to develop. Because she could not communicate well, she was often ignored and even bullied at home and by her neighborhood children. But that’s the past. A volunteer who was assigned to her through the community care program took her out of her isolation. She brings her to school, takes her out and helps her with homework. The schoolchildren understand that Nodi is different and help her where necessary.
