News Learning brief: Sexual and Reproductive Health education.
Niketan/DRRA has been offering Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) education since 2016. With this Learning Brief we want to demonstrate indicative results and the potential impact of our work.
Young people with disabilities often have less autonomy and privacy. This means they have fewer opportunities to learn about sexuality and discover feelings for themselves. Because they may be less resilient and prepared, young people with disabilities may be more vulnerable to sexual risks, such as: sexually transmitted infections (STDs), forced marriages, abortion, sterilization and gender-related violence. However, there is also a serious lack of access to sex education for young people with disabilities. Without adequate sex education, young people with disabilities can also develop deviant sexual behavior. But SRHR is a complex and controversial topic in Bangladesh, especially when it comes to working with people with complex disabilities.
However, based on project visit observations and interviews with stakeholders and beneficiaries, a positive story is emerging. This Learning Brief is based on qualitative data; however, it is not a research paper or evidence report.
