News Antora and Muhibur
Antora and Muhibur both have mild to moderate intellectual disabilities and were married in September.
They had been living next door to each other for years and their parents thought it would be a good idea to marry them off to each other. However, the marriage did not turn out as the parents had planned. It appears that Antora is not a good housewife, does not always behave according to the desired cultural norms and values, and does not know how to deal with her in-laws. Muhibur works in the fields, but has no income and cannot accompany his wife when she needs to see a doctor. Antora and Muhibur are actually quite happy together. Although they experience a lot of pressure from their parents and others. For example, there are many questions about sex, like do you really have to have sex several times every night?! And isn’t it weird to have sex when grandpa is sleeping in the same room?
For over 25 years, Niketan has developed in step with the needs of our children/young people and their parents. Now that many of these children have become young adults, a new dimension has been added to our work. We must start supporting young adults in their adult lives.
