The UN convention for people with disabilities declare that they, like others, can participate in society. However, it is not that simple. In Bangladesh there are barely schools or jobs for people with disabilities. They are often patronized, considered as not full citizens.
Decisions are taken for them and not with them. According to the UN Convention people with disabilities may like everybody else make choices and sketch their own future. Niketan guidance young people with disabilities herein.
The Right to Decide is a training program in which young people learn various skills. In addition to social skills, work habits and personal hygiene, they learn to understand themselves. They learn about relationships, reproductive health and money. In addition to the practical training for young people, trainers / caregivers are trained. They learn to play a more supportive role rather than a leading role. That means learning to listen to the message behind the question / story and creating opportunities. In collaboration with several other organizations Niketan, will run this project for the next 4 years.
